
Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation Eng. Eric Mugaa led a tree planting session at Lambwe Forest in Homa Bay County.
In an event that took place on 5th December, 2024, the CS was joined by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir, Water Secretary Eng. Samuel Alima, representatives from the Ministry of Roads,
Kenya Forest Services, among other Government Agencies. Over 12,000 tree seedlings were planted at the forest in line with the President’s Initiative aimed at plantig 15 billion trees by 2032.
The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, stop deforestation and restore degraded landscapes.
Eng. Mugaa said there is need to plant as many trees as possible to recharge water aquifers to boost underground water.
The CS also paid a courtesy call to the County Governor of Homa Bay H. E Gladys Wanga.
The CS assured the governor of the commitment of the Ministry on ensuring that citizens of Homa Bay receive adequate water and sanitation infrastructure.
LVSWWDA has several projects earmarked for implementation in the county in order to narrow the water deficiency gap.
