
Principal Secretary State Department of Water and Sanitation Dr Paul Ronoh inspected Expansion Works for Kericho Water Supply System in Kericho County on 26th June, 2023.
This project that is currently complete and ready for commissioning was implemented by Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA), and jointly financed by the Government of Kenya (GoK) and KfW Development Bank of Germany (KfW).
It is expected to improve Water Supply to a projected population of 200,000 people residing in the urban and peri-urban areas of Kericho by 2030.
The scope of works for the program include construction of reinforced concrete intake structure on River Kimugu, construction of a raw water steel pipeline of 7.7kms and construction of Kimugu Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of treating 13 million litres of water per day,
Other works included installation of a 4.6kms steel pipeline of treated water pumping main and a 2.8kms treated water pipeline that will use gravity to ferry water from Kimugu to the existing Tea Hotel Tanks, construction of a one million litres new Kapchetoror reinforced concrete, storage tank, and a distribution pipeline of approximately 50Kms.
