Matongo Mixed Secondary School Borehole water supply project North Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira County was constructed by Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA) with financial support from the Government of Kenya (GoK) at a cost of KShs. 5,954,045.00. It involved drilling and equipping costs that was KShs. 2,456,175.00 and KShs. 3,497,869.70 respectively.
Matongo Mixed Secondary School Borehole water supply project will serve Matongo Primary School with a population of 400 pupils, Matongo Secondary School with a population of 150 persons and the neighboring community with sufficient, clean and affordable water which will contribute to the overall development goal of enhancement of water supply and improved livelihoods for the community.
The borehole was drilled to a depth of 180m and has a yielding capacity of 3200 litres per hour which is sufficient to supply both schools and the surrounding community.
The major works included construction of water points, borehole protection chamber, a power house, installation of pump and associated accessories, laying of rising main and distribution pipelines and installation of 10,000 litres capacity plastic tank on a 6m steel tower.
