<p>Siaya Bondo Water Supply and Sanitation Project was commissioned by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta, CGH on 30th May, 2021.</p>



<p>The project was intended to serve 201,258 people with water supply and 51,060 people with sanitation services by the year 2040. Its source is at Sidindi Malanga (Yala town), situated in Gem Constituency, within Siaya County.</p>



<p>It was implemented by Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA0 through financing by African Development Bank and Government of Kenya under Small Towns Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project at a cost of <strong>KSh 2.4 billion</strong>.</p>



<p>The project aims to serve Yala town, Siaya town, Kogello, Bondo town and the environs.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Its construction entailed rehabilitation of the existing water infrastructure at Sidindi Malanga, and putting up of a new water supply systems and sanitation interventions for Bondo and Siaya towns.</p>



<p>The construction works started on 2<sup>nd</sup> November 2013 and was substantially completed in December 2018.</p>



<p>Other scope of works for the water supply project entailed ssupply and installation of 5nr. hydro turbines and 2 electric pumps, laying a new 305m long DN450 raw water main along the existing main, construction of 12,000m<sup>3</sup>/day water treatment works among others.</p>



<p>The scope of works for sanitation project in Siaya town entailed laying of12 km precast Concrete Sewers, construction of exhauster tanker discharge bay,<strong> i</strong>nlet works for physical treatment 2 nr anaerobic ponds, 1 nr facultative pond, 2 nr maturation pond.<strong> </strong>8 nr public ablution blocks among others.</p>



<p>In Bondo Town, the scope of works for sanitation project entailed laying of13km precast Concrete Sewers, exhauster tanker discharge bay, inlet works for physical treatment, 2 nr anaerobic ponds, 1 nr facultative pond, 2 nr maturation pond,9 nr public ablution blocks among others.</p>

<p>AIC Kalyet Church Borehole Water Supply Project is located in Chebarema sub-location, Bureti Sub-County in Kericho County. The project was financed by Government of Kenya and implemented by LVSWWDA. It was initiated to supply water to AIC Kalyet Church, Kapkusum Primary School and the community around the school and church.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The project aims to supply clean, affordable and sustainable portable water to serve 1,500 people within Chebarema sub-location. Kapkusum Primary School has 432 students. The school had no running water source before the implementation of the project and was largely depending on rainwater harvesting. The residents around were entirely depending on rainwater harvesting. The project was undertaken in two phases. Phase I which was drilling and the phase II which was Equipping, Civil and Building works. Drilling was undertaken by Komorono Ventures LTD while the equipping, civil and building works was undertaken by Mabota Investment Limited</p>



<p>The scope of the works executed comprised of: Drilling of a borehole to 160m depth having a yield of 9000 litres per hour, Installation of Solar Panel Modules. Installation of a submersible Pump of capacity 6,500 litres per hour, Pipelines and associated plumbing works, Construction of 3 numbers water kiosks complete with 4000 litre plastic tank. The water Kiosk are located at Chebarema Tea Buying Centre, Kiosk at Assistant Chief’s Camp and Kapkusum, construction of Solar Module structure, construction of Borehole, chamber Construction of Power House, installation of 60,000 litres composite Tank on a 6M High Elevated Steel Tower Platform, Branding of the Facilities Training of the project committee on maintenance and operation of the water system.</p>



<p>The Project is expected to serve over 1,500 people including the pupils of Kapkusum Primary School. The people will have access to clean, affordable and sustainable portable water. Currently the project is being managed, maintained and operated by Chebarema Welfare and Water Development Group Project Committee. It is expected that the project will be self-sustaining through the collection of fees at the point of water collection i.e. Water Kiosks and other methods as decided by the project Committee. These fees are expected to cater for repairs and committee allowances. There were no challenges experienced during implementation of the project.</p>

<p>Aluor Secondary School Borehole Water Supply Project serves an estimated population of 1200 people. The project has led to an increase in access to adequate and clean water for the primary and the local area residents, reduced distance covered by women and children in search of water for domestic use and improved hygiene within the area.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The scope of the work done include installation of pump set and accessories, installation of Solar Structure and Modules, laying of a rising water distribution main, construction of borehole protection chamber, a water kiosk, 12m high steel tower and installation of 54,0000 liters pressed steel tank, distribution Pipes to water kiosk and 2 water points.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Atemo Water Supply Project is located in Atemo sub-location, Kabondo Kasipul Sub-County in Homabay County. The project was financed by Government of Kenya and implemented by LVSWWDA. It was initiated to supply water to Atemo Primary and Secondary Schools, God Agak Primary Secondary Schools and the community around the school and Kirongo Centre. The project aims to supply clean, affordable and sustainable portable water to serve 10,000 people within Kabondo Kasipul Sub County. God Agak Primary School has 500 students. The school had no running water source before the implementation of the project and was largely depending on rainwater harvesting. The residents around were entirely depending on rainwater harvesting.</p>



<p>The project was undertaken in a single phase, the scope of the works comprised of rising main water pipeline from Atemo water intake to God Agak Primary School. Distribution networks which will include a return line to Atemo Primary School to serve the residents within the intake area and another distribution line of similar pipe type, class and size to serve the residents living within God Agak primary school area, construction of a 50,000 Litre masonry water tank at God Agak Primary School which will act as a main water storage tank, Construction of 3 water kiosks including Atemo Primary School, God Agak Primary School and at a centre located approximately 1.4 km from God Agak Primary School to ensure easy access to clean water.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The Project is expected to serve over 10,000 people in Kabondo Kasipul Constituency, Homabay County. Currently the project is being managed, maintained and operated by Homabay Water and Sanitation Water Sanitation Company.</p>

<p>Patients visiting Igena Itambe Dispensary in West Mugirango Constituency and the community at large will now get access to sufficient, clean, affordable and sustainable portable water supply thanks to Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency.</p>



<p>The facility which receives approximately 50 persons per day has been facing acute water shortages due to unsteady and unsustainable water supply making the dispensary not deliver services adequately.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The project was financed by the Government of Kenya at a total cost of KES. 5,954,045.00. and implemented by Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency and the Construction works were undertaken by Donix Enterprises Limited.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The project involved drilling at a cost of KES. 2,657,970.00 and equipping that was done at a cost of KES. 3, 296,075.00. The construction and equipping works included a Power house, Borehole structure, Borehole protection chamber, installation of 10,000 litres plastic tank on an elevated 9 meters steel tower, water kiosk and water points&nbsp;</p>



<p>The drilled borehole has a depth of 230 meters project and has a capability of yielding 2,050 litres of water in one hour using solar power after the installation of the solar panels.</p>



<p>The project’s main objective is to primarily serve Igena Itambe Dispensary by improving water supply within the dispensary and the environs to meet future water demand. This will contribute to the overall development goal of improving health and supporting enhancement of water supply in the dispensary.</p>

<p>It began with the Short Term Action Plan (STAP) which was meant to restore capapcity of the exisiting watger supply system from 11,000m<sup>3</sup>/day to 21,000m<sup>3</sup>/day.&nbsp; It was completed in December 2007 at a cost of KShs. 441 million.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Afterwards, Dunga Emergency Works Component was implemented. It Involved Dunga Intake and Treatment Works expansion from 21,000m<sup>3</sup>/day to 45,000m<sup>3</sup>/day. It was completed in 2011 at a cost of KShs. 106 million.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The last component of implementation was the Long Term Action Plan (LTAP). Its objective was to develop water and sanitation measures to serve Kisumu City until 2031.&nbsp;</p>



<p>It was implemented in three packages. Package one involved construction of Water Distribution Pipelines and Reservoirs at a cost of KShs. 1.6 billion and achieved water storage capacity of 27million litres of water.</p>



<p>The second package involved construction of Kajulu Intake, Water Treatment Works and Raw Water Pipelines.</p>



<p>It was completed in 2015 at a cost of KShs. 687million and achieved new water treatment works at Kajulu with capacity to treat additional 36,000m<sup>3</sup>/day for residents of Kisumu City.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The third package was the construction of Nyalenda Ponds Sewerage System and Pumping Stations. This was completed in 2016 at a cost of KShs. 1.6 billion and achieved rehabilitation and extension of sewerage treatment plant and network.&nbsp;</p>
