 COMMISSIONING OF WATER PROJECTS IN KURIA EAST CONSTITUENCY

The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eng. Eric Mugaa has commissioned Nyamanche Springs Water Supply Project and launched Ntimaru Water Supply Project in Migori County. He also paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Migori County HE Hon. Ochilo Yako. He was accompanied by Kuria East MP Hon. Maisori Kitayama and LVSWWDA Chairman Mr. Dan Omino, OGW.

The Nyamanche Springs Water Supply Project is set to transform the lives of approximately 3,700 households in Kegonga Town and the surrounding areas of Nyabasi East Ward. The project components include spring protection works, construction of dedicated storage reservoirs, installation of a modern pumping station, and development of an 11-kilometre distribution network.

In addition, the project will see the construction of 10 water kiosks to enhance community access, installation of rainwater harvesting systems at Maeta Secondary School, development of new sanitation facilities at Kegonga Primary and Secondary Schools, and the drilling and equipping of three boreholes to guarantee a reliable
water supply.

The Ntimaru Water Supply Project, on the other hand, is designed to serve approximately 4,700 households across Ntimaru East and Ntimaru West Wards. The project entails the rehabilitation and expansion of Gosebe and Nyabikondo dams. At Gosebe, a water treatment plant featuring a 12-million-litre capacity draw-off system will be constructed, while at Nyabikondo, a 2.7-kilometre treated water pumping main will be laid to supply the Ntimaru tanks.

Additionally, four boreholes will be drilled and six ablution blocks constructed to further enhance public health and sanitation in the area. Later in the day, Eng. Mugaa commissioned Kwigena Primary School Water
Harvesting Project. The works done under this project include roofing of eight classrooms, Installation of
gutters, two sanitation blocks of four-doors each, supply and installation of three
water tanks.
